Hi

I'm a linux newbie, I've just install Fedora 5 from a DVD.
It took a long time. At the end it suggested i hit reboot.
After the system rebooted it came to the command prompt.
How do I launch the Graphical User Interface?

Many Thanks

After logging in with your username & password, try startx

Thank you vey much,

The command worked.

If you want to always start the gui, change the default runlevel to 5. There's a way to do this from the gui (which I can't remember), but the manual way is to edit /etc/inittab. Change the line that currently says id:3:initdefault: to id:5:initdefault:

Thanks smah, it worked!
One more question.

I've install FC5, I want to make this machine into a file server. I currently have a windows network. win2k3 servers and xp clients. I want the xp clients to save some data on FC5 machine.

Any tips will be highly appreciated

Vik
