Feature not enabled when trying to set a BITMAP index

I get an error when trying to create a bitmap index....

ORA-00439 feature not enabled: string

Cause: The specified feature is not enabled.

Action: Do not attempt to use this feature.

Any ideas on how I enable this feature?

Metalink has two notes concerning your error. They are 1042674.6 and 91221.1. Possible causes are not having the partitioning option installed and running Oracle standard edition instead of Enterprise edition.

It sounds as if not having the partitioning option installed is specific to Oracle 8.0.4. Running standard edition instead of Enterprise edition affects both Oracle 8 and 8i.

Basically you need to upgrade your Oracle software to a level where bitmapped indexes are supported. Since this may involve additional licensing costs, you will have to decide if bitmapped indexes are worth the price of the upgrade.

You're right. I have discovered that the application is not Enterprise and needs to be for this to work.
