"Whenever I dwell for any length of time on my own shortcomings, they gradually begin to seem mild, harmless, rather engaging little things, not at all like the staring defects in other people's characters."
A p5-570 consists of max 4 CPU drawers (or quads) which are interconnected with two flexcables (CPU bus and ServProc bus). One quad contains max 4 CPUs - so 16 CPUs is maximum.
Note that you can have Capacity-upgradeOnDemand, so an 8way might still be a 4-quad machine, which makes upgrading to 12 or 16 CPUs possible without downtime. A standard upgrade by adding processor drawers involves quite a downtime for a p5-570 (plan one full saturday).
I am confised because when I open my p570 system properties in HMC there is stated in CPUs tab:
Maximum system capacity: 8
Installed processing units: 8
Configurable processing units: 8
Can I put additional 8 CPUs to my p570? If yes, why there is "Maximum system capacity: 8"?
I know from experience that for the other p5 system (550Q) how many CPUs I can put it depends from CPU clock speed - only 4 x 1.9GHz can be installed there but option with 1.65GHz allows to put 8 CPUs.
Take a look at IO-tab on HMC system properties and count how many CPU drawers you have (each CPU drawer also has 6 IO slots so they're listed there as well.) A unit in a p5-570 machine not labeled as a D20 or D11 drawer should be a processor drawer.
if I'm not mistaken, those are your 2 CPU drawers, so you can upgrade to 16 way, but it means shutdown, taking the two-drawer system flex-cables off, adding extra CPU drawer(s) and connecting all with 3-drawer or 4-drawer flexcables.
Might also mean repositioning the existing drawers to higher EIA-slot-numbers because additional CFPU drawers are added downwards from your first CPU drawer in the rack. You may also need additional PDUs in the rack...
If I would like to replace existing Power5 1.65GHz CPUs with Power5+ 2.2 GHz - is it possible and worth to do? What should be upgraded in my p570 to install there Power5+ CPUs?
Ask your business partner about that. It may be that you 'd need to buy a p5+ and trade-in the p5. Don't know if a field upgrade of just the CPU-MCMs is possible.
