We're using a Polycom conference phone and trying to determine how to execute feature codes on the phone. Specifically, how to conference two people in (Feature *3).

I thought the * or # could act as a feature button but that does not work. Is there a way to execute feature codes on a Norstar system?

Thanks,

Brian

Here is a post I put up a while back for an ata question.

When you are using the ATA on the norstar the flash is what allows you to access the features; to make a last number redial call you would hit flash then dial * 5 to use the feature code for last number redial (5).
So to make a confrence call if you have confrence available on the outside line you are connected to and talking on you would hit FLASH * 7 1 get the second dial tone, dial the number, wait for answer, hit FLASH * 7 1 again to link the two together.

alternatly the steps are as follows:
make your first call, FLASH * 2 (places first call on hold
Make second call
Flash * 3 (completes confrence connection)
Note: If second call is busy or not available Flash 2 returns you to first call
during confrence you can put confrence on hold from you but still connected by FLASH 2 (Holds the two confrees but they can talk to each other)
During a confrence you can split it for a consult by
FLASH # 3 to split the conf
FLASH 2 to toggle between calls
FLASH * 3 to restore the confrence
to disconnect one party: FLASH # 3 puts one caller on hold and you are connected to the other call
hang up the call or toggle to the other call and then hang up
go back on speaker and you will be back to the call that was not connected.

I know this sounds really nasty to do during a confrence but it is right out of the book. I would practice it a few times before even thinking of trying to show anybody how to do it.

Thanks for the feedback! That is a somewhat cumbersome method, but I guess POTS doesn't have much in the way of other options.

I had a momentary thought about trying "flash", but discarded the idea as too cumbersome ... plus I was chasing other problems at the time.

Your help is greaty appreciated.

These things do not work from the Polycom conference phones, I don't know why. They work from any other analog phone, but there is somethng about the Polycoms that they just don't work. I've had customers ask the same questions and have yet to make them work. There is a Norstar Polycom phone, though. Good Luck

I think that either polycom or nortel decided that confrence phones should not be confrenceing. Just a guess though.

what I did for one customer that needed to make confrence calls was put an analog phone in the confrence room then they made the confrence call from the analog phone and then turned on the analog confrence phone when the confrence was there.

Try changing the flash times. Here is what I have.

Polycom Setting Hook Flash Timing
Use the following steps to change hook flash timing newer units. Older units have dip switches.
Unplug power transformer
Press and hold mute button
Restore power
Hold mute until bong sound. All 3 LEDs flash red.
Release mute button
Press # button
Press * buttom
3 LEDs come on
Enter desired flash timing
200=100ms
100=300ms
000=600ms
Green LEDs flash. Unit in now back in operation.
