I have tried almost everything but bying a new hard drive.
Scandisk is fixing the whole drive because there is too many files. I got no response when I try to reformat the c drive....there is a partition with a funny label that i can not delete...i need to install window and it won't happen.
i tried the fdisk /mbr and got no response...what next?? Thanks!!

Okay, fair warning. Use the program at your own risk!!!

If you want to completely wipe everything off of the drive, the you can use aefdisk to do so. It can delete all partitions with little input from you (and without having to type the volume label out)

You can download aefdisk from (just do a search for it). Once it is downloaded (and extracted if needed), put it onto a boot floppy. Start your system with that boot disk, and at the prompt, type

aefdisk /delall

**Warning...it will NOT ask if you are sure. It WILL erase every partition on your drive. If you have more than one hard drive in your system, read the documentation to ensure that you are not wiping all drives in your system--just the one you want to wipe**

After that, run fdisk /mbr just to ensure that you have a standard Master Boot Record. It won't say anything, just dump you onto another prompt.

Reboot, and set your hard drive up from scratch.

Good luck!
