Okay, i'm frantic and desparate...

LONG STORY SHORT: I accidently deleted the partition that had WIN 2K PROFESSIONAL on it, using FDISK... (I accessed FDISK through the Win 98 SE CD-ROM, trying to install it, etc.)

However, I HAVE NOT YET RESTARTED MY COMPUTER, and I can still access "E:" (the win2K partition) in DOS. FDISK said the changes would NOT take effect until I restart, which I haven't done yet. It is 8:30 EST USA, and my system is still on. I await your help!

QUESTION: IS THERE ANY WAY TO 'REINSTATE' THAT PARTITION? (the one with Win 2K?)

And if not, what DOS commands/switches do I use to navigate/save what I can? COPY and XCOPY don't seem to be recognized.

p.s. yes, I'm hardly a 'professional'!

I do not think that there is a way to get the partition back. There are many utilties out there that will recover your files. One that I have used with sucess in the past is "Ontrack Easy Recovery". Do a search on google and I'm sure you will find it.

Good Luck

As you can still access it in dos, I'm presuming its FAT32 rather than ntfs? I have had some success recreating a FAT32 - not NTFS partition (using a utility called pdisk, rather than fdisk) that had been removed (by another utility in my case). Created partition same size, position on disk and filestore type - didn't format it, and when I rebooted partition was back (had about 75% success rate during an experimentation period).

If this sounds too dangerous - Stealer's right - lots of file recovery utilities - another (free) one here:-
PS. If your win2k is an extended partition, I don't think my top method will work.
