Just a very basic question. I have bought an Arena Direct-attached Storage disk array with an FC interface. Also, I have a QLogic HBA. I want to install the HBA in the server and use the FC storage on Linux, but have no idea how things will be. Will I see like a normal drive? Who takes care of block-level to file-level conversion here, the HBA? Will I just face a normal file-level storage (from user's viewpoint and the HBA puts up with the process of converting files to blocks for storage on the fiber channel disk array?

Will I see like a normal drive?

yes, you will see each LUN as a normal disk drive.

Who takes care of block-level to file-level conversion here

The OS and the HBA driver, as any normal disk drive.

***

Just keep in mind that the OS will se any LUN as any disk drive, after all a disk drive is a LUN!

Cheers.
