Hi!

I have encountered a tough problem: tried ti install az FC adapter on my AiX 4.3.3 box, but no driver found. When I try to configure the adapter, this happens:

===========================================
# cfgmgr
Method error (/etc/methods/cfglft -l lft0 ):
0514-032 Cannot perform the requested function because the
specified device is dependent on another device which does
not exist.
cfgmgr: 0514-621 WARNING: The following device packages are required for
device support but are not currently installed.
devices.pci.fibre-channel:devices.pci.df1080f9:devices.pci.df1080f9
===========================================

These packages are available only for AIX 5L. Can I install those, or can I have some other stuff?

thanks,

I have FC cards on my AIX 4.3.3 machines, with no trouble. You need to do a "cfgmgr -i {install media directory}". I'm not sure which of the 4 cds the particular drivers are as I keep a NFS mount of all media.

Hi!

comtec: to tell the truth, I am not really sure. It was not me who put the card in the box (it is a pSeries 6H1). The fellow told that it should work with the drivers of model 6228, but I suspect type 6239, as cfgmgr requests for the driver of if. But it is not supported on AIX 4.3.3.

By the way: how can I get information about that card with no drivers installed? Can I query it somehow to tell type information an such?

I have the WWPN of the card. As far as I know, it contains intormation about vendor and model, as it does with Ethernet interfaces. Is there some database to query?

Thanks,

the df1080f9 card is, 99% sure, the 6228. we have a few, they are the new 2gb IBM fibre cards, SC connector. i don't know that there is a driver for AIX 4, the driver for AIX 5 was only included on the CD set as of revision -06... luckily i found a -06 set on someone's desk. i'd call IBM if i were you, it might not be supported on AIX 4.

Hi Trifo,

You would require devices.pci.df1000f9 and devices.common.IBM.fc to support a 6228 FC adapter.

You may also need other drivers like devices.fcp.disk, devices.fcp.tape, devices.fcp.disk.array ... etc ... depending on how you are using the adapters.

Best of Luck. :)

d3vzero: thanks... It turned out that my cards are type 6239 with no AiX 4.3 support. Great...

By the way, one of the problematic boxes will be reinstalled with AiX 5.2, but I have to dig it out from an SP system.
