how can I prescribe the sequence of the files that
will be backed up with fbackup.

I want the most important files at the beginning of the
Tape in case the tape runs out.

Hi,

fbackup runs the find command on the filesystems that it will backup before backing them up. This creates your index file.
Two methods spring to mind,
1)Use either a series of includes or a graph file to force the order of backup.
2)Run separate fbackups for the order of the directories in which you want to backup, appending to the tape with each one. However it would be difficult to time the start of the next to coincide with end of the previous, unless you used a script.

I use a graph file now.
The sequence is messed up anyway,
The append option. That’s the way.

Thanks Clare

Hi Gregor,

I am incorrect. fbackup does not allow you to append.

You could have a script which does does a du on the directories that you want to backup adding up the figures and testing to see if it will fit on you tape
( IF SUM < capacity of tape
THEN
fbackup .......
The sum of your filespace will determine which fbackup to run.

sorry to have pointed you in the wrong direction, I've worked with Omniback for too long....
