Hi,any help greatly apprciated.

running 10.3.9 on a 1.6GHz G5, recently FaxStf not sending/receiving faxes. It's not my machine so don't know if anything's been fiddled with.

We have a separate fax line and internet connection so don't know why modem status is "in use by another process". I have tried to set up FaxStf under a different user, as it was suggested this may help, but got the same error message during setup.

I noticed my 10.4.8 1.8GHz Dual G5 has internal modem listed under 'Built-in ethernet' Network System Prefs, but the 10.3.9 1.6 doesn't. Does this mean it's been deleted, or is in a different place in 10.3.9?

Thanks in anticipation

You do not need Faxstf under 10.3X. Go to System prefs/print and fax. Click on the Fax button to set up. To send a fax you go to Print and select Fax in the print window. If you want, you can use Address book to store fax numbers.

Thanks JM,

really would like to keep FAXstf as more user friendly.

Went to Sys Prefs and found we had been receiving faxes - 'Recieve faxes on this computer' was checked - if I uncheck this I don't receive any faxes via the Sys Prefs or FAXstf.

As I can choose to de/select faxes via Sys Prefs, do you think there's a way to select FAXstf over the Sys Prefs?

Thanks again

For receiving faxes via OSX, you could select the same folder as you use for received faxes in Faxstf. That way your received faxes would end up where you like them. I assume you could still use stf to send faxes as long as teh modem is not in use receiving faxes or for internet.

Hi JM,

will try the suggested folder selection, but first noticed the fax wasn't working when trying to send. As modem not being used for internet, I just can't figure out what app is using it.

Have got someone coming out to have a look tomorrow, so fingers crossed,

thanks again

Hi again JM, installed FAXstf on another mac, ensured 'Receive faxes on this computer' was unchecked, everything was fine. Have just had a techie out, turns out the modem had failed,

Thanks for your help though...
