Good afternoon, We recently changed a customer over from a T-1 to a PRI in a NEC 2000 IPS. Service is provided through a local cable compnay, Time Warner. Since the change fax machines that are connected to the NEC are failing, Poor Line Condition, . I know this is an issue with the cable companies and G711 codec. My question is that im not real familiar with the 2000 on where to be sure that this codec is set. and how to apply it, Any helpwould be greatly appreciated.

Richard

Sorry but if you are using PRI and not using IP g711 doesn't come into it. Have you changed the dip switch settings on the CPU?

Can you tell me what dip switch's on the CPU to change??? Also PRI from the cable company come to you as a SIP trunk, which is essentially VOIP. Thanks for the reply

The way a PRI is delivered should not present a problem on the PABX, at the end of the day you are dealing with a PRI, anything else is the carrier's problem. What guide did you use in setting up the PRI?

Are you sure you have it set to the correct protocol (I mean ISDN not IP Eg ETSI)

The switch settings on the MP are dependent on the card type you are using, you will find the settings in the manual if you have it. If not post back and we will see what can be done.

Oh and here is a link to the IVS2 ISDN manual, it is almost identical to the IPS but you will be able to work out any differences if you use it in conjunction with an IPS command manual!....

Where is the PRI card in the system? Clocking is only supplied when the card is in PIM 0, without clocking faxes will have problems. Also on the PRI card SW0 piano key 1 should be set to on.

Ask the carrier if they are compressing the audio.
We had a similar problem where the customer got a gret deal and changed carriers.
Upstream in the exchange the ISDN service was Compressed and it was that that killed the faxes.
They ended up having to retain 1 isdn service for faxes on the old carrier .

If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....

Thanks for the replies , PRI is in PIMM 0 so clocking is not an issue. I actually used the ISDN ezsetup guide that I got from a friend that actually installed this switch when it was new. I'll check with time warner today to see if they are compressing anything on the PRI. Again thanks for all the replies
