faxes failing rotued from remote office

Hello,

From a remote S8300 lsp to an S8400,
When we receive faxes from remote office, it goes over G.711MU. Was working fine for about 1 year. One day the fax negotiation stops working. I did "change ip-codec-set 1" and switched it on page 2 from "pass-through" to "relay". Now it works, but I do not understand what could have changed. Configs I have looked at have generally used "pass-through". Anybody have any Insight ?
