Former Nortel guy, new to Mitel, be gentle.

Trying to get Fax to Email to work with NuPoint vm. I've gotten it to the point where the message gets to the vm box, but it doesn't accept it as a fax, it just records a beeping tone and emails the audio file. Seems the vmb doesn't recognize the fax.

I've enabled FCOS 190, 240, 290 for the mailbox. What am I missing?
Thanks!
Al

It's been a while but from my notes, I have this:

1. Create a Fax Group
2. Add fax channels to the Fax Group
3. Assign the Fax Group to one or more Line Groups
4. Activate the configuration changes
5. Add appropriate fax feature bits to Classes of Service
- Create an FCOS with the following parameters:
Add feature bits:
190-196
200, 235
240, 263
264, 280, 290
- Create an LCOS with the following parameters:
Number of digits for fax phone number for fax delivery (11)
Pre-greet Silence Interval to Improve Walkaway CNG Detection (0
seconds)
Fax delivery retry frequency (1)
Fax delivery retry interval (1)
- Create an NCOS with the following parameters:
010 Allows a user to make a fax message over the network
011 Allows a user to give a fax message to a mailbox on a remote
network.
012 Allows a user to answer a fax message to a mailbox on a remote
network.
6. Assign fax COS to the necessary mailboxes

Then to retrieve a fax:

1. Log into your mailbox from your extension. (Do not
call from the fax machine.)

2. You should be prompted that ‘you have 1 new message with fax.” Press ‘P’ or ‘7’ to Play and then ‘T’ or 8’ for Fax Transmittal Options.” At this point, you should be prompted to press ‘D’ or ‘3’ to send it to the Default Fax Number, ‘I’ to Input a Number, or ‘R’ to receive this fax now.” Note: You can only use ‘R’ or ‘7’ if you are calling from a fax machine.

3. Select ‘D’ or ‘3’ and then ‘X’ or ‘9’ to send the fax. Press ‘K” or ‘5’ to Keep the message. Note: The server should send the fax within 1 minute to the designated default fax number.

NuPoint requires a Fax license as well.
Make sure that you have the license for it to work.

As of April 2017 new sales of licensing for stand-alone Nupoint was ended. The only way to get new licensing is when the Nupoint has been migrated to MiCollab

I suppose you're entitled to your opinion, I'm just not going to suppose very hard.

Devolution, thanks for the reply. Where do I set up Fax Groups? In MiCollab, I have a Line group labeled Voicemail and the target is NuPoint. Not sure how to assign to lines. This is a hosted solution.

I followed all the steps from 5 on, and it didn't solve this one, But was able to solve another issue (Displaying caller ID name in voice messages!). It's possibly a license issue. I see licensing all over the place, where will I find that specific fax license?

I should have mentioned that all of the steps I mentioned would be in the NuPoint application within MiCollab. You would need to edit the offline configuration and then apply it once all changes are made.

Fax Groups is a form available once you start editing the offline configuration. You create a fax group and then add fax channels to it. Your available fax channels are dictated by the number of fax licenses you have. 1 license = 1 fax channel. I will caveat this step by mentioning that this certainly was the case the last time I configured NuPoint fax. It might have changed in newer versions.

After a fax group has been created, it must then be assigned to the desired incoming and outgoing Line Groups. This then allows the line groups to have access to the fax group. Multiple line groups can share the same fax group. I think the built-in NuPoint help file under Optional Features goes through this in some detail.
