I was trying to set up a fax to the compact, but don't know if i should use system answer or ccr. I have an answering machine which picks up after 3 rings and have 1 line.I want the fax to pick up only when a fax is coming in and the answering machine to pick up calls when no one is available. I cant seem to get it to work, and was wondering what the easiest way to do it.

lets see if I have this right. Call comes in on the line rings three times and is answered by a answering machine if this is a analog device. The best way I have found is a line share device With 3 or 4 Ports (1 for FAX, 1 For Phone and 1 for TAD (Telephone answering device)) This will answer the call check to see if its a FAX call (Listen for change tones) then route to the proper device.

As DTone stated. A fax xtransfer device works great. Some fax machines have them built in. Bring line from Telco into fax machine then into phone system.

Good Luck!!

I forgot, i have caller id going into the compact ics,i don't think this will allow it to work. So i'm back to the fax dn on the compact. any ideas?

If you want to use the built in fax transfer on the CICS. You need to have the CICS answer call first by using CCR.

Good Luck!!

Maybe i'm doing something wrong, because i tried it and it's not working. Does system answer have to be on as well? Also does CCR answer first, then if it's a fax, transfers it to the fax dn and if it's not a fax, rings the ext's in the group? That is what i want it to do, but i may be missing a step. If
anyone has this working, can you tell me the procedure.
Thanks
Gabriel

AA must be on on the CICS for Fax switch to work, it monitors the incoming call and listens for Fax?modem tones then transfers to the Fax DN.
If you do not use this option then you can just transfer the call manualy to the ATA DN.
