How do I answer the computer vendor that wants to know whether the analog station ports(Analog card) we will use for his fax server can receive calls to a DID # with DTMF/DNIS signalling? The goal is to have a paperless fax office with several DID #s pointed to fax server & recipients in office receiving faxes to their E-Mail. Thanks.

Tigerrco,

Search through the posts for my "adventures" about trying to get a fax server to work off of DTMF.

You don't mention what you're hooking the Norstar to: POTS, PRI, or T1.

Knowing what I know know, I would explore other options, including Norstar Desktop Messaging. Or peeling some channels off the PRI and going digital.

My customer has a PRI. The computer company wanted to point DID's on Pri to 4 analog ports on Fax server. what specific info, pro or con, can someone give me? Thanks.

How many users are you trying to support with faxes to e-mail?
What fax server setup do you have or are looking at?

Your feedback is appreciated - Here's what the computer vendor is saying - 4 analog extensions off Norstar, configured as a hunt group. About 30 DID#s assigned to this hunt group. When a call comes in to one of these extensions, he needs DTMF of the unique 3 or 4 digits of the DID # to be passed on to the ringing extension. I've never done this before, so need some advice. Again, this is a PRI with MICS 4.1.

Just to clarify- my client has about 35 employees all with their own DID # for fax server. Plus maybe 10 more DID's for general use.

OK - Now that i read about Pat's misadventures - sounds like the VMI solution may not be ral strong. Question for everyone - what does he mean where he says "peel off some channels from the PRI & go digital" Thanks.

Just one more question - Does our conclusion about the Fax Server with VMI Cards stay the same if this same client of mine already have a Fax Messaging/Fax on Demand software package working with their current NAM? I think you would have to have a Desktop Messaging solution with the Fax Messaging & even then I'm not sure.
