Fax server issues, interdigit timeout and busy signals

We have installed a new fax server. I am having a couple of problems.

1. When calling the fax server DN (a local number and a number that is on my 81c) from my desk it takes 15 seconds before it connects to the server and you get the fax screamer. Sometimes I get a fax sometimes I get part of the first page. I am thinking it may be something with the fax server, but want to get my ducks in a row before calling the vendor yet again (this is the most problematic install/upgrade that I have ever been involved in). I can make any other local calls (offnet to include a fax that sits on my desk)from my desk and the call starts ringing instantly to include fax numbers.

Is there an adjustment that I should make/check, if so what is it and where would this adjustment be located?

2. I have set this up using CDP and a DSC. I have 2-inbound PRI's for all inbound call traffic and 2-outbound PRI's for all outbound traffic. The fax server has 12 channels and is suppose to handle 12 calls simultaneously, but when one call is going on you recieve a busy signal when you attempt the a second fax. There are several available channels on my PRI's. Again I think it is something to do with the fax server, but want to check my end before contacting the vendor.

Can you all think of anything that I should check on my end and if so what is it and where would this adjustment be located?

Thanks for any help on this.

How is the fax server connected to the 81? PRI, T-1, Analog ports?

CDP points to a Cisco gateway and the fax server talks to the Cisco gateway that has a dial-peer for that DN. There are 2-PRI's (not the same PRI's for local or LD)from the 81c that connects to the gateway.

Hope that helps a little.

As long as that CDP entry is pointed to that route then the only thing that could cause your delay would be the FLEN setting, set it for the length of the DN you are sending in CDP, so if you are sending 4000 set the FLEN to 4. That won't explain the busy signal on the 2nd call though. I would make sure there are enough DSP's in the Cisco Gateway and it is a full 64K

My FLEN is currently set at four. The DSC is acutally a 4-digit DN, but the DMI drops the first digit and inserts two other for a total of 5-digits so the Cisco knows it is for the gateway. I will try changing the FLEN to 5 and see what happens.

I spoke to our Network Team and the gateway is max'd out with DSP's.

Changing the FLEN to five did not make any difference. It still took 15 seconds to get the fax screamer.

We have a Unifier (fax server) that we just upgraded recently and we were getting the same problem. Well the ethernet card on the server was slowly failing over the last week or so. The admin was also unable to RDP and it was having trouble talking to other devices. Not saying this is your case but it might be something to look at. Once fixed the faxes pickup quickly again :) Ours would take 15-30 seconds prior to the fix.
