Does anyone have any experiance of using FAX over IP with the 3300?

We are looking into using the Eicon diva server soft IP software as we are upgrading our fax system from 4 to 16 lines and don't want the cost of a pri card.

Any advice / experiance / horror stories would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Chris

Do you beleave that it's possible to tell you anything valuable? It's like to say "I'm going to the Moon, help me"

Erm, Well yes I would say it is possible to tell me something valuable. Perhaps like "I have a customer that tried to do this and failed after spending 4 weeks trying to get it working, buy a pri card instead" etc.

I hadn't realised Fax over IP was as complicated as a moon shot, perhaps I should call NASA instead.

There are so many options and methods to implement fax over IP. Except some proprietary protocols you can use T.38,T.37 passthrough over G.711. Which equipment do you use for PSTN connection? What's your client side, which sends and receives faxes. Let's say I have Cisco PRI/T.37 fax gateway, coupled with Postfix SMTP with tweaked timing. SMTP relays messges from/to users in Lotus Notes.
Give some details.

Right, I don't really understand your beef slapin.

"There are so many options and methods to implement fax over IP" Correct there are, anyone done it, if so what with?

"Which equipment do you use for PSTN connection?" Well that was in the original question, a 3300 or actually a cluster of 6. I don't believe the flavour is important but please correct me if I am wrong.

"What's your client side, which sends and receives faxes" What differnece does that make? I'm looking for the CAPI side of things to interface as if the application was talking to a standard ISDN CAPI. So again I am looking for people who have implemented Eicon Diva Soft IP. Yes I have googled it and I get zero hits back.

I have a login to Mitels site but can't see any reference to any sort of implementation.

So.. Specifically, has anyone interfaced a Mitel 3300 controller with any Eicon Diva Soft IP Software?

Slapin, I can see from your profile and posts that you have asked for help and given advice on quite a few occasions. Perhaps you are more familiar with Mitel equipment than I so please bear with me.

I'm not familiar with Diva Soft IP system. What kind of interface to MITEL do you expect to use? LS/ONS, BRI/PRI QSIG, MiNET, SIP?

I don't know what LS/ONS is.

BRI / PRI qsig etc aren't an IP protocol.

I have the option in this product of using either SIP trunks or standard H323 a or U law extensions. Other Mitel add on's tend to use a 5020 multiline extension emulation.

I'm not really sure which is the best option, probably Sip trunks as I need to pass DDI numbers down it so the fax software can route based on incoming number. Not sure if you could do this with simple extensions using say system speedials.

At this point MITEL does not support fax over ip. You can try to use SIP trunks with pass-trough G.711. If the server will be installed in the same 100M LAN it might work. If you have some kind of slow link you will face huge problems. Even a little jitter can kill fax transmission when voice sounds nice and clear. H323 is not an option. There is no ulaw extensions in MITEL systems.

I have Cisco 2651XM with VoIP module connected to PRI QSIG on MITEL ICP. Cisco works like a T.37 gateway. It can work as T.38 fax over IP gateway as well.

I'd recommend to wait for release 8.0 where T.38 should be introduced. Most likely it will be purchasable option. This will allow you to use SIP with T.38 for sure.

Just a quick update. We have had our system upgraded to v8 and the order from Eicon changed over to SIP licenses. We have also had 16 sip trunks created.

Hopefully in the next few weeks we will be upto giving things a go.
