Fax over IP between ipOFFICE and DEFINITY 1

I am having problems sending faxes over IP from a Definity to ipOFFICE. Voice over IP works, and if I dial I can hear the fax tone. However, for some reason the fax does not transfer.

If anyone has done this successfully, can you send me a screenshot of the settings you used on the ipOFFICE?

What version of IP Office and Definity do you have?

IPO: In VoIP setting, have you ticked Fax transport?

I am using ipOffice is 2.1(15) and the Definity has the latest fw and software. I have checked Fax Transport in the VoIP screen.

If you have used this successfully could you send me screenshots of your settings so I can compare?

Instead of sending you screenshot I'll tell what I have done in VoIP screen:

gateway IP address: (IP addr. C-LAN)
Compress. mode: G.711 ALAW 64K
H450 support: NONE

enabled options:
Fax transport
Allow Direct Media Path (not sure if you need this)
Out of band DTMF (enable this when you're using G.729 codec)

Try it and let me know ...

Fax over IP is still being developed. You will need the Communications Manager 2.1 software. Soon to be released.

we tested FoIP between IPO 2.1(15) and IP600 R9.5 and it works fine (with G.711 and G.729 codecs). Also we did same tests with S8300 R1.2, same result. New software CM 2.1 will support ITUT standard T.38 for FoIP and I hope MoIP.

Cool, I haven't tested it myself...
To the original problem, one possibility is that the fax rate is too high... Try setting it to 9600 or below?

After upgrading the MedPro board (TN2302) to the new Firmware v90 (just released on June 22, 2004) and trying some of the suggestions from you... it now works!

PS: I found the following note in the readme file for the ATN2302 FW quite interesting. It appears that Avaya still has some work to do.

The TN2302AP does not detect Super G3 Fax machines (i.e., high speed). If both ends of a fax transmission have Super G3 machines, the fax will not be detected, the call will proceed in-band as a normal voice call, and the success of the fax transmission depends on coder choice and network quality of service (QOS). If coder choice is G.711 and network QOS is good, the fax will likely succeed. In other cases, the fax will not be properly sent.

Note that circuit pack download over IP from a C-LAN in one gateway to a target board in another gateway will take longer than circuit pack download to a local board in the same gateway as the source C-LAN.

Although the V90 TN2302AP supports T.38 Fax Relay, interoperability with other vendors' equipment has not been tested and is not guaranteed. Thus users should only use the Fax Relay feature when both ends of the IP trunk are terminated by a TN2302AP.

Also, the TN802 Media Processor's fax relay implementation is not T.38 compliant and thus is not interoperable with TN2302AP.
