hello all,

WE are looking to setup some faxes using some spare analog ports that we have on our switch. Here is the approach that I am thinking. Once we get the DID from our telco setup, we create a new dnit and point it to an analog extension that was created.

Is there any special setting that I will need to setup the analog line? Is there an easlier way?

THanks

The way you wrote this sounds more complicated than it might need to be, so let me ask a couple of questions....

When you say "Once we get the DID..."
Are you saying that you are getting a TRUNK or other type of phone line, or are you getting a NUMBER?

Typically using DID out of context can be confusing because when most people say I'm giving her a DID that means they are giving her phone a number that can be called from outside. BUT those numbers have to come in on a special DID trunk, or an ISDN PRI or some other type of phone line that handles DID numbers.

All you you have to do is create an analog extension for your fax. If you are adding an outside phone line for this purpose you set the phone line up as a trunk and set the trunk to ring in to that extension. (HOTDEST, DITIDX)

If you are just adding a number (usually they come in blocks of 20) that will come in on an already existing DID trunk, then that is the number you assign to that analog extension.

Either way you just create an analog extension in the normal fashion - and whatever number or phone line you are adding from the telco just gets pointed at that extension.

If you are buying a new DID trunk and block of numbers and your switch has never had DID service before than that is going to require a bit more programming )

Don sorry,

We will have our telco add the direct dial numbers to our existing PRI. They will pass the last four digits to our 4000 and then we will assigned a new dnit using the last 4 digit and send to a target (internal) extension. that extension would be the actual fax.

Thanks.

You don't really need to assign a DNIT - unless your inside extensions are more (or less) than 4 digits, perhaps. Otherwise just make the extension number of the analog extension the same as one of your new 4-digit DID numbers and *poof* - you're done.
