Problem: We have a problem with marketers sending faxes through our pbx console, and I need to get it stopped. Here is how these marketers are doing it. These marketers apparently have an automatic dialer and they are using voice numbers versus fax numbers that point to our main number, so these faxes are sent to our main number, received by our pbx console personnel. I have the pbx personnel transfer these faxes down to the engineering fax machine. I will then call the number the marketers provide to remove fax numbers from their system. Problem is, is that they will only remove fax numbers from their system(s), but since they are using ordinary voice numbers which are not associated with any extension in the company I work for, but which point to our main number, I cannot get these numbers removed from their auto dialing system and thus we continue to receive these unwanted faxes.

There is no way on the Definity to block the sheer number of voice numbers these marketers are using. Has any one had this problem, and what have you done to get this problem resolved?

Compile a list of the offending telemarketers and then contact your CSR for your local carrier and ask them for assistance. There are National laws and State/Local laws that bear on these matters and State/Local laws can be sometimes stronger. You can, I believe, place entire number ranges on the National "Do Not Call" lists, but I am not sure if that includes fax calls. Contact your carrier.

A product that is out there by Securelogix called the telecom firewall can be used. Because it is a security device and not a PBX it is able to skirt the regulations on unidentified numbers. If used in conjunction with a pri it will capture the calls true ani and you can then block them....In addition you can use it to set policy on accepting fax based calls by pipe or extension.

Most of the autodialers send only one fake number or none at all so it isn't that hard to block them. The problem is getting their tru ani which this device allows you to do.

Thank you both for the information. Dunstan, this one marketing company is using many fake numbers, between 10 and 15. I have seen it as high as 20. Phonesrus, your recommendation I will first follow because the law needs to be involved here. The secrelogix I will look into. Thanks again to both of you.
