Fax Machine cannot dial one number. We have a POTs line coming into the office that is just for the fax. For some reason you can send faxes to any number except one number. I can dial the number and get a fax tone from my cell phone fine. The user on the other end has the same issue where they cannot send to our number. Any ideas.

Can you dial the number with a regular telephone placed on the fax circuit?? If so, then the problem is with the fax.

If the phone cannot make the call, then there may be a translation issue at the CO. Call the provider to help.

My Biggest problem is that I almost always believe what I tell myself.

I had the same problem with a customer they couldn't fax one branch office , they could fax anywhere else , all other branch's could fax this number .

went round and round finally problem went away when they changed CLEC'S

Is it an "800" fax number you are trying to call? Some companies can restrict the use of their 800 number so that only people outside their local calling area can dial that number - if you are local to them you would be blocked.

That does not explain why they can't call you though. Have you tried dialing the full 10-digit number? I have also had situations where the mailing address of a company is "my town" but their telephone exchange (NXX-) is different and requires you to dial the area code because the neighboring town is in a different LATA or something and is considered long distance.

Your cell phone may get through because you have long distance included in your contract, or the home area of the phone may be larger than the home area of your local service provider.

I know I have had similar problems with restricted toll free numbers, but if it is happening both ways I would have to wonder if it is a long distance issue.

Connect a regular 500 phone to the line and what message do you get when the call doesn't go through, thats probably the first place to start.
