All, I have read through lots of threads here and still can't seem to come to a fix.. can you help?

I am trying to setup a fax machine by plugging the line into a vacant voice port (x7123). I've removed the extension from a coverage group (since when I dialed that ext, it went straight to AA/VM). I can obtain dial tone but I am unable to send / recv faxes. I've pasted the details of this extension below. Can you please offer assistance? Thanks - Chris

Also, if you are wanting to use a DID number assigned to the station port, you need to renumber that port according to the Dial Plan and DID number block spares available in the trunk group. The one shown in the print above looks like setup space numbering even though it is a TDL port.

// merlinman, can you please tell me how you know to a TDL vs. a single line port? I am still trying to learn / decipher this report / learn the switch.

// syquest ...

If I want to use the DID xxx-xxx-8223 as the commerical number for my fax (also a number from my batch of numbers with the DID), what is that process that I would need to follow to make this work..

OR should I just cable it over to my 016 T/R module (this unfortunately not allow me to use a number from my DID batch) and assign the fax line an extension and call it a day?

I am trying to make this as simple as possible for those faxing into our facility.

Can you please school the novice?

Also. I am running a Magix 4.0 v7.0 according to my report header (if that helps with explaining all of this to me)

Chris

Another question, I may have asked this already but would like someone to validate my thought:

If I patch the fax line over to a vacant port on my 016 T/R module (assigning it an extension number from there).. can I program/route/direct my DID number use that port for all in/outgoing faxes? or am I making it simplier than it actually is? or is that kind of programming not available?

Again, thanks for all of the help thus far.

Chris

The novice needs some schooling... The first thing would be to download the manuals from support.avaya.com, they are free for the download. There are several, and they cover the Magix very well. If you want to know the system better you need to do some reading to be more familiar with the system.

A port on the 016TR module is what you need to use since those are the only ports that will work with T/R analogue devices. Then you need to renumber the port to DID 8223 from whatever is currently assigned. Are your DID numbers from Telco sent as 3 or 4 digit feeds? This will need to be determined in order to renumber properly. You can check an existing DID station to see if anything special has been done.

The Feature Reference document is probably one of the most useful for the Magix. It explains each feature and shows the programming steps too, along with other useful info.

Happy reading!

Jim,

The teleco has provided me a list of number for my DID ranging from xxx-yyy-8200 thru -8259. I'd like to -8223 for my fax line since this number doubles as x7123 internally. I am unsure what you mean by "3 or 4 digit feeds" or did I answer your question in my previous sentence?

I have already downloaded most, if not all, of the technical manuals for the Magix. Please believe that I am reading them (alongside of juggling my actual job as an electronics tech / mechanical designer) I ask alot of questions just to validate what I may read and obtain ideas from others who have been in this industry far longer than I. You all are the experts by all stretches.

Looking over the information shared thus far, I'm guessing I should have just cabled to fax over to the 016 initially and thend figured out how to assign/direct that port to the DID number xxx-yyy-8223.

Thanks thus far. The novice truly appreciates it.

You are very welcome. Ask all the questions you want. That is why this forum is here.

The reason I asked how many digits are being sent is, that can sometimes affect how numbers are translated from DID to the Dial Plan, and assigning them to stations or groups. But for the moment, let me ask how are the DID numbers being delivered? By analogue DID trunks, or PRIMARY ISDN on DS1, or could it be CAS on DS1? These terms may not be familiar to you, but in time you can learn what they are. If you post a print of the lines/trunks on the Magix and the Dial Plan, this will help narrow down what information is needed to answer your questions.

That's correct. Any standard T/R device needs to be connected to a 016 T/R module. The ports on a TDL card are used with 4400 series telephones and a certain type of Transtalk cordless telephone receiver.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.
