Fax disconnects adsl

The line has just a fax machine and a Speedtouch 330 modem. The customer says that quite often an incoming fax will disconnect the dsl. I can't find any relevant info.
Does anyone have any experience of this?

Make sure the fax is connected through an ADSL filter before connecting it to the wall jack. The modem must be connected directly to the jack without any filters.

Is the jack wired properly?
Most single phone/modem equipment will work properly if tip and ring are reversed, but with two uses of the jack you might have an issue with a second device.

It's a possibility I suppose, but it's a big office fax, I would have thought that Panasonic or whoever would be careful about that. Probably not possible to see how the fax plug is wired though.

It is the jack at the wall that is of concern. Ringer voltate of 90 volts AC applied to DSL modem tip connection is likely to cause a disconnect.
