We have an ACS 6 system with Partner Messaging v. 7. A fax machine is on extension 33, and Auto Attendant 3 handles it, switching calls on incoming line 6 to extension 33 when they are fax calls. That works fine. Somehow though line 5 apparently thinks it is in Hunt Group 8 (the fax CNG group) and all incoming calls on line 5 get transferred instantly to extension 33, even though there are no lines and no extensions assigned to Hunt Group 8. Line 5 is actually assigned to Hunt Group 7, the AA group. Maybe it is a bug in ACS 6. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you!

Look at extension 33 in programming; make sure that it isn't set to ring for line 5 (or whichever the fax line is). If it somehow got the ringer turned on it will be answered by the fax machine. D

Turn ringing off on all lines for the fax machine.

Do not assign any lines to CallDistGrp 8, rather put them all in group 7 (#206-7). Let the AA answer them all, and detect the CNG tone. Put the fax extension in Hunt Group 8 (#505-8), but make ALL lines on it have NO ring. Although there is the option to assign a FAX receiver in the Messaging's auto attendant programming, DO NOT USE IT if your are going to put the fax in hunt group 8, the two ways of sending calls to the fax will work at cross purposes.

Now, if you never expect fax calls to come in on anything other than the fax line, but want to share that line for voice calls or backdoor access, take the fax OUT of hunt group 8, assign the fax line to auto attendant no. 2, make the fax extension the fax receiver for AA-2, but NOT for AA-1, and use your PC GUI to copy the recordings from AA1 to AA2.
