fax and phone calls on 1 POTS 2

Hello everyone,

i need to have a fax on the same # as the phone.

can anyone suggest a reasonably priced device that will sense if its a fax or phone calls and pass to the appropriate device?

I use Distinctive Ring from the telco. Works quite well. normal calls come in as standard ring. you get assigned a seperate number with a break in the ring. Fax needs to accept this but im sure it will state so in the documentation. Nice thing is no device in the middle to program or break. Last time I looked I think I costs me $2.50 a month

A lot of the newer fax machines have a mode setting for TEL/FAX that has the ability to determine if the call is a voice call or a fax call. My Sister has a business and they have the fax hooked up to the regular phone line - it works like an answering machine. The phone rings 4 times or so and if not answered the call is 'picked up' by the answering machine that says leave your message or send your fax at the tone. If the answering machine hears a fax tone the fax grabs the call. If you pick up the phone and hear a fax tone the fax grabs the call.

Find someplace other than Wal-Mart to buy the fax machine so you can ask the clerk who (supposedly) knows about the features of the machine.

skip, you already googled the lowest price. thanks. the first device i found was like $200.00 which is out of spec.

don, its an all in one lexmark scanner, printer, fax, you can hook your digital camera to it. not sure what else it can do. its brand new and I'm not sure the model number. but thats points me in the right direction
