Favorites Folder Location

I had installed Earthlink Total access 2000 and it had redirected my favorites folder to a new location under it's install directory. I thought I found the registry key for this configuration and changed it in(HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer\Shell Folders\Favorites) to "%USERPROFILE%\Favorites" However after I changed it the configuration never sticks when I open Explore it now always reverts back to c:\windows\Favorites......?

Does anyone know what controls this? I have searched the registry for any other entries with a value of C:\windows\favorites but come up empty.

I backup my User profile directory by way of raoming profile to my home server so importing my favorites this directory (c:\windows\Favorites is not desirable.
