i saved a favicon.ico to my root directory ( but then decided i didn't like it, so i replaced it. unfortunatly, it doesn't seem to be bahaving as i would expect.

when i uploaded the first one, i got the icon in the favourites directory, but not on the address bar. then, i looked at the icon directly ( then went back the homepage. it was then in the address bar. this first icon was a 'd' with a coloured background.

after i uploaded the new icon, which was a 'd' with a white background. i found that the icon in my favourites hadn't updated, nor had the one on the address bar. i visited again, and noticed it was chached, so refreshed, and saw it update (white background now). for some reason though, i was loking at an icon that took up 32x32 pixels (although, on closer inspection it was apparent that it had been enlarged by ie). no amount of refrshing, rebookmarking or emptying my internet history has changed to icon.

which i con can you see, coloured background or white background?
how can i force ie to look for the newest icon?
why does appear as 32x32 pixel?
why didn't the icon pop up on the address bar straight away?

answers to any of these questions would be halpful.

incedentally, it works fine in netscape, but not at all in opera or mozilla. anybody here using safari?

nice read manrth, ta.

i clicked on some of the links in that last thread and have decided that it's to be expected for ie to not change the address bar icon reliably.

when i came back after lunch, my website ( was working, so i guess there must be some chaching at work - but i don't know what cache to clear, or how (it isn't the internet history).

just one more queary though, why does appear to be larger than it is? it appears as 32x32 in ie, netscape and opera - but it's only 16x16.

i see the orange d with the white background.

As you have seen by the reading of the other thread - there seems to be a lot of confusion on this issue.

Microsoft as this to say:

if link doesn't work, it's article 257130 , or Q257130

I am a nobody, and nobody is perfect; therefore, I am perfect.
