Just a thought and I was looking for some responses here if anyone has any input.

I have a dozen or so websites in my favorites list that are using favicon.ico.

I cleared the history and cache in my browser the other day and of course, those favicons are gone !! I know it makes perfect sense, but wondered if anyone had any thoughts about this.

I've run into the same problem. Apparently instead of storing favicons in some semi-permanent location IE just stores them in the cache, and they end up going away. Stupid way of doing things, but no way around it that I know of. Tracy Dryden

If you download the icon file to someplace outside the cache (by explicitly downloading it) you can drop down the Favorites list and choose the one you want, and go to Properties from the context menu (right-click). Then you can set the icon to the saved icon file.

That's about it though.

I've tried that too, but IE still seemed to lose track of it after a while. Maybe it's just a bug in that case that makes it forget to check for it or something.

The favicon idea was a pretty good one, IMHO, but it was VERY poorly implemented! Tracy Dryden
