I import from Excel 22k of text into a table. So that I do it by the book, I accept all that the import wizard advises. Then I reduce the table to one field which I want to question with queries.

The query answers from Count are highly imaginative but far from correct - like 877 where 6 would have been correct.

I look back through the table and sure enough it has duplicated blocks of information.

It certainly makes the results much more interesting, but not very helpful. Is this experience unique to me or is it more common, and is there an answer please? Cheers

If you publish the SQL from one of the queries that you know is returning the wrong results, them maybe someone can help. Right now, there's not a lot to go on; top of my head, your 'Group By' statement in the SQL could be wrong.

Thanks, Steve, I know that would help, but I couldn't work out where along the process the fault was coming from - Excel or in Access. As sometimes happens, I stumbled on the answer myself an hour after posting the message. I came straight back, but the forum doesn't allow for messages to be erased. Sorry. It was my mistake. Very grateful for you going to this trouble. Cheers
