ok guys this is my deal..i got my computer from gateway and i don't have the aol cd nor do i have the ie cd they both came preloaded..unfortunatly my software warrenty has run out with gateway and i'm not paying 300.00 to extend it so that is where i'm at..i need to figure out what this error means and what is causing it..it's becoming quite annoying..someone mentioned i should uninstall and re-install but i don't have the cd's.

ok i just looked and found the application restoration cd that came with my computer..but it does not say what actual programs are on it..with this application restoration can i uninstall two programs and re-install or do i have to dump them all and re-install everything..and what if aol and ie are not on there then what..

The recovery CD puts your system back to the way it was when it shipped from Gateway, effectively blowing away everything else you have.

If all you need is an AOL CD, you can call AOL, they'll send you one. Blockbuster and Hollywood video often have them sitting there. Wait 3 days, one will be in your mailbox. Or hit your local computer store - they most likely have a few as coasters they can let you have.

funny..but not quite the answer i was looking for..i am really looking for someone who can explain the error to me so i can understand exactly how to resolve the problem..

thanks anyway.

The way I understand it, an invalid page fault occurs when Windows makes an error using virtual memory. It tries to write memory to a spot where something already exists, in this case the kernel was in the spot that it was writing to. Naturally, this causes a problem as the OS is essentially trying to put something where itself resides. This is really good article if you want to read up about all the details. I think uninstalling and reinstalling AOL's software will likely fix the problem. All you need to do this is an AOL cd, since IE and everything else already comes with Windows.
I think what ShaithisDanoveur was trying to say is that AOL cd's are very easy to come by; since AOL wants everyone and anyone to sign up, they make their software free and highly distribute it. You can probably pick on up at one of the places he mentioned or any store that sells computers. Once you have it, uninstall the current version using the control panel, add/remove programs function and install the new version with the cd. This will force you to have to set up your account again so remember your AOL password if you have it saved. Hope this helped. Good luck. Justin

ok understand that..but the error also occurs in ie alone when i am on roadrunner(cable modem that defaults its home page using ie)..so the error is occuring with aol closed as well..could it be that aol is causing the error in ie even when aol is closed?

thanks for your help..will call aol and get another cd..
