Ever since I installed an internal TDK CD-RW, when I boot
up I intermittently get the subject message. After hitting
any key, I get the message again. After again hitting any
key, about half the time Windows will start. However,
after it starts, I cannot open some of my desktop shortcuts
and other applications. When I try, I get the following
message:

Invalid page fault module KERNEL 32.DLL at 0177:bff8194e

Sometimes the error message involves 0177:BFFxxxxx.

Of course, TDK says it's not their problem, that it's a
Windows problem. Can anyone please help?

I found a website listing lots of causes and links to resolutions for Kernel32.dll errors. They all tend to circle around memory issues. It should also be considered that you might have a problem with the physical memory. The website is good luck. hg

Take a look into your hardware config.
If TDK drive is IDE:
- is it on the same controller as you harddrive (if it is also IDE)?
- if yes, did you set master/slave jumpers properly,
- if no, it it the only device on the secondary controller and, again, did you set the jumpers properly.
If TDK drive is SCSI:
- does SCSI controller have any resource conflits (IRQ/DMA/memory address)?
- is TDK the only device on the SCSI controller?
- if yes, did you set the terminaltion properly,
- if no, did you assign it unique SCSI ID and set the termination properly.

Good luck.
