Fatal Exception Error

Hello,
I tried to load a piece of software onto my windows 98 machine, as it got about half way through the whole lot crashed with the 'fatal exception error' message and now the PC doesn't recognise any CD which is in the drive.

Anyone come accross this before, if so, any ideas for a fix or this?
