Had trouble with my phone modem. Took old modem out of computer, installed new modem into pci slot and computer recognizes it as new hardware at start up. Problem is, after you show the computer where to locate the driver file it goes to a blue screen fatal exception error (0D). Corrupt file somewhere? Is there something else I need to uninstall and reinstall to get this to work? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Nate

I removed it from the machine and it no longer registered in the device manager. Is there another way that the old needs to be uninstalled?

What OS? 98 and XP have different ways to access the modems listed. If you know how to get to where the modems are listed, delete the old modem. You may have to put the old modem back in - delete modem - remove the old modem - and install the new one.

Win98 OS. Put old modem back in, uninstalled it. Also ran system file checker and found some corrupt files which I restored. Computer boots just fine with old modem and with no modem but I still get blue screen fatal exception error (0D at 0028:0000000B) when it starts to install the driver file. I've even tried copying the driver files to the hard drive and trying to install from that location but get the same error. RAM checks out fine. The pci slot recognizes the modem just won't let me install the drivers. Thanks for your help.

What kind of "new" modem is it, and how new? If "brand new", does it say on the box that it will work with Win98? I have a whole bunch that gives errors when installed. If you look real quick, you will sometimes see a message "drivers not compatable with this system". I'd just get a different modem, the cheap ones are only $10 to $15.

It is not a compatibility issue as I have the same modem running on similar motherboards and OS. Going to try uninstalling and reinstalling the dial up adapter.

That did not work. Next step trying new modem as suggested.
