fatal error extracting ISScript.Msi from the binary table
Reason: unknown error.

any help would be appreciated!

Thanx Angel

System Restore back a few restore points and then try the program again or try the uninstall once more.

For troubleshooting, enable the MSI installer verbose log file using the instructions from KB article Q223300.
223300 - How to Enable Windows Installer Logging

Reregister or Re-install MSI Installer.
324516 - "The Windows Installer service could not be accessed" error message when you try to install Office

A little bit of information here.

hiya linney thanx for replying to my message..I tried to System Restore back a few restore points but it failed!
I must say i had made a windows update last night.. could it be the cause why it failed? now i clicked on the links u suggested however i dont know how to restore the registry if a problem occurs so i guess my only option is to format my c drive n reinstall win xp..what do u think? ur thoughts would be appreciated! thanx Angel!

System Restore will not restore to any point where a machine configuration is faulty. That said, you may have better luck attempting System Restore from Safe Mode.
It is possible but highly unlikely your recent update from Windows was the cause either.

You can only restore a Registry if you have one saved via backup. A program like Erunt can be a life saver in such a situation. keep this link for future use, when you are more confident.

Did you try reregistering the MSI installer?

Start your computer in Safe mode, and then register the Msiexec.exe file. To do this, follow these steps:
Shut down your computer, and then restart your computer.
Restart your computer and press the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, press the F8 key when you see the Boot menu.
Use the ARROW keys to select Safe Mode, and then press ENTER.
If the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start, and then press ENTER.
Log on to the computer.
Click Start, click Run, type msiexec /regserver in the Open box, and then click OK.
Shut down your computer, and then restart your computer normally.

For Windows XP, either reapply the latest service pack or repair the operating system as you cannot reinstall the MSI Installer, according to the article above.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

Hiya Linney my os is winxp pro so i tried what u said but it didnt work! now before I try repairing windows by running it over itself i forgot to mention that in dec 03 i had made an image of my drive C with "power quest drive image" can i use it to restore/repair my installer? now if i cannot use the image i created with power quest n have to run windows over itself will i have to reinstall all my programs? like officexp adobe acrobat etc etc ?thanx Angel

There would have been I imagine a lot of changes between now and last December to your machine which might be to your disadvantage. The advantages of using the Windows repair is that none of your files, none of your non-windows programs will be lost. It will only replace those programs and files included on the install CD. That is why you have to redo your windows updates.

You can cut the pain from that by obtaining the free Security Update CD which includes all the security updates and service packs prior to October 03, leaving you the few remaining security updates and all the recommended updates to redo.

Formatting n reinstalling windows might be a simple task for u hun but for me it was my first time n it is a major accomplishment i'm just thrilled that i did it!!
Now with that said i'm back in buziness i create animation n special effects with Adobe photoshop n PSP so if u want a special signature made with the graphic of your choice it would be my pleasure! Thank you for your kind words. We all learn from each other in this forum, it is so much easier when you have several minds working on a problem rather than trying on your own.

I am glad you are up and running. To complete the education have a look at this thread.

And don't forget about Erunt from further up the post.

I am not an Avatar or Signature type of person but thanks for the kind offer, I'll bear it in mind.

hiya Linney thanx for the Win XP Emergency Recovery disk's link n no i didnt forget about Erunt n have it in my favorites however thanx for reminding me.Now I have a question for u..My sister needs to format her hd n i will do it for her..she has windows 2000 Pro n would like to install Win xp pro..I tried to install winxp this morning thinking it would give me a formatting option like it did with my pc but it did not..I tried to find a format floppy that i can download from the web but without success..any help would be appreciated!! many thanx Angel

Hi Greg I already tried the win xp setup boot disks this morning.. however it didnt work out.. it keeps on saying that I dont have enough space on my hd which is the truth ..that is one of the reason i'm trying to format the whole hd first to get rid of everything so i'll have enough space to install winXP ..same message when i try with the winxp cd.. could it be the reason why it doesnt give me the format option ? on the other hand logically speaking it should give me the format option since my hd is full dont u think..??
thanx Angel

You must boot from the XP CD, do not load it into the 2000 operating system to run XP setup from there. The bios must be setup to boot from a CD ahead of the hard drive.

Before you format you would have to delete any existing 2000 partition then create one for XP, preferably as NTFS.
