Hi

I have a problem with windows XP only recently, when i knock my pc on and it runs AVG7 it brings up a fatal error and reboots. It does this once then when it reboots it brings the error message up again and doesn't reboot. Ive sent the error message to microsoft, but nothing. It does not give any details at all in the error code.

The only thing i have noticed and am a bit worried about is that when i boot up the Processor fan speed is on 0 RPM which is worrying me, i dont want to use my pc, which i have been for hours, if the processor is not being cooled down. Or could it be misreported on the post boot

What is telling you the "processor fan 0"? What CPU are you using? If AMD, the system will shut down in a matter of seconds if the fan is not working - if Intel, it will run slower and slower if it overheats. What if you un-install AVG7?

when i boot up the bios startup says that the processor fan is running at 0 rpm. Even when i download some software to see what speed its running it says 0rpm. However when i open up the system the processor fan is working ok.

I have left the PC on for 1 hour and the highest the temp went was 35C

forgot to say that i have an AMD Athlon Xp2400 processor

I'd say that the speed sensor on the motherboard is bad. How old is this mobo? Have you removed AVG7?

The PC itself is only about 3 months old, and no i aint removed AVG7 yet, will do that tonight and try

We need more information on specs
Is your heatsink/fan unit thermally controlled? has it got a reostat (fan speed knob) or thermal resistor controlling fan speed?

im not too sure how do i find this information out, will i need to take it to bits, the CPU is running at between 25 and 37C as soon as i switch it on, i dont want to do any damage
