FAT 32, I formated my win 98 c: drive then try to load 95 then i get a message: you need to create a ms-dos boot partition to set up windows.Im in trouble can anyone help please

Let me get this straight, you formatted your c: with win98 as FAT32 and then tried to install win95 on it? If you are trying to install win95A then you are out of luck as it doesn't support fat32. I don't recall which version of win95 supports fat32 but I believe that it was version B (I think).

From the error message in your post "you need to create a ms-dos boot partition to set up windows" I would conclude that the version of win95 that you want to install doesn't support fat32.

Troy Williams B.Eng.
fenris@hotmail.com

Your error message indicates you need to run fdisk, to create the primary partition. Why your getting it subsequent to a format is another thing. As stated before, Win95a will NOT support Fat32. Win95b and later will. So if you formatted the drive with win98, just get a boot diskette, re-boot the machine off the diskette, run fdisk again to delete, and then re-create the primary partition, making sure to say no to Fat32. You will have to reformat with Fat16 when your done, but then Win95 shoud be OK for that drive.
Tom Whitehead
twhitehead@commeq.com

Fernis it is the Win95b OSR 2.5 that supports FAT32 the 2.1 doesn't. Foozen if you haven't got the OSR 2.5 version you are out of luck with installing win95.The three earlier versions only support FAT 16. My suggestion is to go with Win98 if you really want to use the FAT 32. I know there ar ea few bugs in it but you do have a little more scope with it.

Just out of interest what is the hardware you are installing on. If its a 486 or P1 I would say just go with FAT16 but if it is a PII or III go with 98.

froozen didn't say he wanted FAT32, he just wants WIN95.
All he needs to do is fdisk the drive and boot to his WIN95 setup. WIN95 will create the partition then restart the system then it will format the drive(s)and then procede with the install.
