Ok here is my problem to start. I am doing a wireless connection to some buildings here. I have to assign static IP's to each machine. I have a subnet broken down into a 242 (14 usable address) I am running into the problem of gateway addresses. Lets say I had office one like so
Office1
xxx.xx.xx.16 network address
xxx.xx.xx.17-30 (usable address)
xxx.xx.xx.21 (broadcast address)
Computer 1 xxx.xx.xx.18
Computer 2 xxx.xx.xx.19
etc....
I would assign there gateway as xxx.xx.xx.17
Now my question is do I have to have an ethernet interface on my router as address xxx.xx.xx.17 (gateway)
cause with this wireless connection basically they will be comming into my building on a wirless bridge and plugging into a switch on my backbone. Can I assign sub interface to an ethernet port to accomodate these adress such as
Gateway 1 xxx.xx.xx.17
gateway 2 xxx.xx.xx.33
gateway 3 xxx.xx.xx.49
I know you can do secondary address but how many of those can you have? Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ron
