Fast (free or inexpensive) file transfer

We long for the ability to transfer files among ourselves with the speed at which Microsoft File Transfer Manager software does...

Can anyone recommend a fast, internet-based, file transfer utility that's either free or less than maybe $100/year?

Regarding FileZilla... we already use that, and we like it for "normal size" files, and routine file transfers... it's easy to use, and pretty popular.

Regarding WhisperTech's Surfer: Can you give my your call on if it's "fast" or "*FAST*?" We're looking for something along the lines of Microsoft's File Transfer program that "somehow" makes those large files _fly_.

We'll take a look at it, but just wondering if you had a feling for its relative speed.
