Hi. Just starting to work with Merlin Legend. Complaint seems to be they went from 3 digit to 4 digit extension.

(I did observe a 3 digit extension still working...)

On announcement callers are directed

1 for department one
2 for department two
3 for department three

Issue seems to be extension they want is say 1340 but they are pressing buttons before announcement over(they know extension) and it is picking up say extension 340.

I know how to manage it in a definity but where do I find it in this system.

Thanks,
J

First, there is a setting in the voice mail for Maximum Extension Length, you need to change it from 3 to 4.

Next, how is the system to distinguish between 1 for Dept. 1 and 1 as the 1st digit of an extension number? The answer is that it can't, and you must reserve 1 as "Direct Extension Dial" so it will keep looking for 3 more digits.

Work through the menus in the System Administrator's mailbox to find these settings.

I was taking the word of the admin assist who was administrating the system. Looked into the set up a little more and found main AA set up like so:

1 e transfer
2 1606 transfer dept 1
3 1002 call-ans dept 2
4 1003 call-ans dept 3
5 1004 call-ans dept 4
6 1005 call-ans dept 5
7 1006 call-ans dept 6
8 1007 call-ans dept 7
9 1000 call-ans replay
0 1229 transfer ans group
timeout 1299 trans ans group

It seems that you are working with an Intuity AUDIX or similar box for VM. But Tommy's notes still apply: You will have transfer delays and other weird issues if you have a mixed length dial plan.

It is perfectly acceptable (but not recommended) to have extensions in the 10xx, 12xx and 16xx range while SIMULTANEOUSLY having stations translated at 10x, 12x and 16x.
