When I log onto my profile on windows vista, it fails to load my profile properly. I click on my username at the logon screen, type in the password and then logon, it then says "welcome" then goes to "loading the desktop settings", but sits for a while then sends me to a temporary profile notifying me that it has not loaded properly. I have been looking for the event viewer for windows vista by typing "eve" onto the search feature in the windows menu but it does not return anything (as windows says it should) for the event log. If anyone knows how to fix this or just simply view the event log it will be greatly appreciated.

You can view the event log in vista as in xp by running eventvwr.msc (Windows key+r if run not on your menu). Sounds like the profile is corrupt - must admit I haven't seen this on vista yet. You could try the same approach as for XP - log on as different user, rename the problem user profile, log back on as problem user - it should create new profile - you can then copy stuff back from the renamed one you need (I haven't tried this on vista yet - and I know vista has more restrictive permissions set, so you may need to change some security settings to get it to rename/access the renamed profile).

ok, so i viewed the event log and it seems to be a user profile service error with the event id of 1542 and 1530, also windows vista update KB641649 is having trouble installing creating more errors. I tried to log on another profile but it just didnt load at all giving a loading error immediately. The event property error was: Windows cannot load classes registry file.
DETAIL - The system cannot find the file specified.

anyone have suggestions or possible solutions?

Is this a Domain or Standalone machine?

Event Viewer errors also mention an Event Source, you need this to take the error further and decipher it.

Type "To copy a user profile", in the Help and Support program search box and it will give you Vista specific instructions.

Error Message: "Windows Cannot Load the Locally Stored Profile"

"Windows cannot load your profile because it may be corrupted" error message when you try to log on to Windows XP

Just typing "EV" in the Start Menu search area, lists the Event Viewer at the top of the list on this System here.

Do you mean KB941649 the reliability patch? There might be something here if you do?
