I have a server running SBS 2K3 with 6 clients. I have a Linksys wireless router on the local NIC and a Linksys modem on the internet side. Of the 6 clients, three connect fine to the router but the others connect but fail to acquire an IP address. When I try them with a static IP they connect but are very unstable and fall off after 30 seconds or so. Cabling to the router works fine so I assume its a wireless issue. Encryption is WPA-PSK, WEP-TKIP. Can anyone suggest anything? Thanks for reading this.

Of the three that either fail to get an IP Addresses or "fall off" after 30 seconds with static ones, can you see what level of signal they're getting from the Linksys?

What sort of distance and obstacle course are they having to contend with to receive signals from the wireless router?

Are these laptops with built-in WiFi, or plug-in PCMCIA cards, etc., etc? Or Minitowers with PCI cards? If the latter, the antenna is often mounted very close to the rear of the case which often shields or absorbs the RF.

Are these 802.11 B, G, A or N? If you're able to, try reducing the data speed to see if that has any effect.

Try bigger or better placed antennas on the Linksys.

Try temporarily knocking off the encryption to see if that makes any difference.
