Hi

We installed CE8 standard version that is available with CR8.5, on Windows 2000 server and IIS. Everything seemed to be working fine for one day, we were able to publish and run simple reports and also access them from remote PCs through ePortfolio and CMC.

Suddenly they stopped working (I assume, when my colleague tried to publish a "very large" report). That attempt failed while running the report.

The error we now get when we try to run any report is :

Error encountered by Crystal PageServer
---------------------------------------
The error message returned is:
Operating system file operation on file frs://Input/52/152/3bc25c5e440986.rpt failed. [On Page Server: {server-name}.pageserver]

Even the sample reports are not running now. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Have you tried to restart all the services? NT is not know for it's stability so you may have crashed your server by running that 'very large report'.

You can start with restarting the page server.

Hi

Njit, Thanks a lot for your reply. We'd already tried that option. The errors we experienced were different at different times, the above listed one was only one example !

We called the Seagate tech. support, and they gave a number of suggestions, and I am listing them here for the benefit of others who might face the same problems (listed here randomly, NOT in the order of any criteria) :

* Run 'very large' reports only as a scheduled task and NOT online.
* Cluster the page server for 'huge reports' to run properly.
* Increase idle time for both page server and cache server to 40 min.
** Increase the cache size of cache server to 500,000 KB.
* Use ODBC driver that comes along with Crystal reports (CROR8V36) for connectivity (We use Oracle 8iR2 as the database server running on a different machine and used to connect through 'Oracle client').
* Run the servers under Domain Administrator account.

- out of these, it looked like only the solution marked as ** restored the 'small' and sample reports from failing. But, we had to delete and republish all 'our' reports. We tried a few other options too, but running the 'huge' reports online still seems to be nightmare.

I shall keep posting if we found some more solutions.

Thanks
Nataraj
