I am trying to find a disaster recovery solution for my aria 250. I have backup tapes and tons of extra hardware, however not sure if I can restore the entire system to new hardware on my own. Any thoughts? I would actually like to have a mirrow running in another location if at all possible.

you can do a full restore to any system but if you have never done it you may want to have someone who knows how to do it come on site and show you how. do you have a 2nd system ?

I do have a spare a spare system that could be deployed at the second site, however does the hardware need to be identical? primary site has full redundant drive and max ports, however since the second site will be used for disaster only, I am thinking I would limit capacity and access to only essential personel. Where can I find the procedure for the full restore, I would like to test that in my lab if possible.

You can restore as long as the number of hours is the same or greater on the target system. The procedure is in the Aria doc's on the CD. You will have to have the eng bit turned on to do this. the number of ports does not matter as the ports are not backed up.

Just a caution, not only do the hours have to be the same but if your planning or providing a seemless restore to another system it must have all the same features activated as well... ie.. same software level, Velocity, GMR, number of drives... tape? and so on if their not identical you will have issues..
