Can someone tell me what the /dev/rsystem01.dbf file is or what type of information it contains? Why would this file be accessed when logging into sqlplus? Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

It seems to me that you have problem with Oracle itself. rsystem01.dbf is database file, where SYSTEM tablespace located (this is only assumption for it's up to administrator who added this file). After connecting Sql*Plus tries to check system.user_profile to know if you're not prohibited to run this product and fails. So, contact the administrator...
Another less probable cause may be found in glogi.sql which started after connect.
Hope this helps.

Think you've got a problem database peacockj - talk to your db admin, pdq I suggest.

Mike
Mike_Lacey@Cargill.Com
<a href= Cargill's Corporate Web Site
Please don't send me email questions without posting them in Tek-Tips as well. Better yet -- Post the question in Tek-Tips and send me a note saying "Have a look at so-and-so in the thingy forum would you?"
