I'm finally able to sit down and write this up...
Wednesday evening, I started doing some software upgrades on 2 of the 4 systems in a clustered network.
First system - kicked it off at 6pm. 2nd system at 7pm.
First system had an issue that after the 2nd reboot, the system lost connection to the network and I had to send someone to the site to move the Ethernet cable from port 1 to port 2 on the controller.
Meanwhile while waiting on the guy to arrive, I continued to monitor the upgrade progress of the 2nd system.... The software migration tool got to the restore section and on the very last reboot, the system would not come up. I watched it restart several times.
I could not log into the ESM, but did get the login prompt to tell me that the applications were loading... but then it would restart and I wouldn't get anything. After several reboots (seen in the pings), the ESM stopped responding.
I was able to get to the Server-Manager, there was a message at the top of the screen indicating that the system failed to load several times, so it stopped.
I restarted the system through the SM, and I was able to observe the same issues as before.
Since I was remote, I decided to drive to the site of the 2nd system... I arrived at 11:30pm.
I opened a ticket with Mitel Support and waitied for the callback.
Call came just before Midnight.
I was on the phone with support until just before 5:30 and in the end, we did a reverse migration.
The E2T didn't do its own reverse migration, and is OFFLINE.
Mitel support has both databases and attempted to restore them into their test-system... they had the same errors on BOTH databases.
I went to the site of the 1st system and did the reverse migration there.
I got word this morning from support they discovered the issue that caused the system from not coming up. In the Multiline Advisory Messages - top of the screen, there were 2 entries. The top entry showed language choices available, but no language choice available.
It appeared the 2nd entry was a duplicate of the 1st entry except that in the left column it showed the chosen language choice as English.
Mitel support loaded the database to an 8.x system. Deleted the 1st entry, backed up the database and successfully restored it to a 9.x system.
At the moment, there's nothing that we know to do about the E2T card with UBoot. I will have to go to the site to remove the E2T, upgrade the system and then install the E2T back in... it should work then.
Mitel support doesn't have a means of recovering the Bootrom to the E2T
They've written a KB article on this issue, and design is looking into it.
I figured I'd let you guys here know to ensure that the form has correct language selection on all entries before starting an upgrade to 9.x
