Failed to retrieve list of log files on 10.20

I am running HP-UX 10.20 on a 9000/k200. When I go into SAM->Routine Tasks->System Log Files I get a message that reads "Failed to retrieve the list of log files. This is usually caused by missing data files that are expected on the system.". After pressing OK, I get nothing on the system log files list. It would seem obvious that I need to reconstruct these files but I am not sure how to do this. I just "inherited" this PRODUCTION server from a colleague and I have no idea what happened before I got the server. Can anyone please help ??

When you open up this screen in sam, it is running a command /usr/sam/lbin/listchk /usr/sam/lib/rt /var/sam/rt/`hostname` and puts the output to the file /var/sam/rt/`hostname`. I got a list of 49 logs. Some are important, others are not (to my system, anyway).

It could be that it's a problem with sam, not with your logs. sam was quite buggy at 10.20. Are your patches up to date?

It also could be that log files were never added to the list. Sam lets you add files to the list. If you want, I can send you my list of log files, but it might not contain all the logs you might want to keep track of. Using my list, you can add it your log files to the list. Post your email address and I'll send it to you.

Thanks for the info !! I checked my "/var/sam/rt/" directory and the 'hostname'.log file is an empty file which would make sense parting from your explanation. Please send me your file to iperez@gmgroup.com so I can check. I have several other servers that I can check but I'd like to see what other admins are using.
