I am working on Crystal Reports XIR2SP3 on the desktop. I am using BUS OBJ SERVER Version XIR2SP4. I have been working with Crystal Reports and the server for 7 years so I am not a rooky and also administer to my server. I can save a new report to the BUS OBJ Server no problem, I can save an existing report with parameters no problem. When I create a new report with a new dynamic parameter this will not save to the Enterprise. I loaded Crystal Reports XI, XIR2SP4 and XIR2SP6 on three different PC's and they all failed to upload the report to the server giving the same message save for the temp file. To me this looks more like a server issue than a desktop issue. I looked at the SAP error logs and they speak of Page Setup NO Printer Specified tried that, Unchecking the Refresh Repository and none of these make any difference. I can upload the report to the BUS OBJ server using the CMC console if it is a new report with a new dynamic parameter or a report that has dynamic parameters but the parameter has not been changed.

I attempted to get SAP tech support help but because I have not upgraded my server I am End of Life on the XIR2SP4 server so they will not provide support even though I have paid for maintenance. We plan to upgrade in a couple months as we are in the middle of our Finance system upgrade.

Please let me know if you have seen this error and what it takes to fix it.

Thank you for your time.

There appears to be a problem with the file that you uploaded - I am unable to download it.

However, since you're upgrading in a couple of months and you can get the report into the system through the CMC, that may be the route you have to take for now. After you publish the report through the CMC are you able to update it through Crystal if the params don't change? If that works, then you might be able to do the following for existing reports with updated params:

1. In the CMC, publish the report to a "dummy" folder so that the params get updated. Then use Crystal to update the report in its regular folder.

2. Make the parameter changes in the Business View Manager. Then add the params to Crystal. This way the "save as" process in Crystal won't have to create the new stuff in the repository because it will already be there.

Dell:

I can take an existing report from the CMC, make minor changes to the report that do not affect the dynamic parameter and this can be saved to the Enterprise Repository no problem.

The problem is when I have a dynamic parameter that used one table and now uses another table but has the same field name in the table USERNAME so the dynamic parameter will have the same name USERNAME. When I make the changes in Crystal it uses the correct table to display the drop down list which is in Table S_USER. When I upload this report using the CMC it displays the old table which is Schools that has the USERNAME field in this table and it does not overwrite the parameter file. When this occurred I went to the BUS OBJ server in the Dynamic Cascading Prompts listing and deleted the occurances of USERNAME parameter the BE, BV, DF, DC. I then went back to the CMC and uploaded the report again and it is still showing the old USERNAME Schools table. Somehow the old table is not being overwritten. I am trying to figure out why I would get this problem now. My last server upgrade was 01/2009 to XIR2SP4. My desktops which I have 5 2 XPs and 3 Windows 7's the XIr2SP3 has been installed for over 1 year. Before that it was 2 years from XIR2SP2. So basically nothing has changed but now I am getting this error.

So in this case if I used the wrong table as a drop down and it has the correct drop down table has the same field name (USERNAME) as the original table then this is not overwriting the dynamic parameter.

I hope this make sense. All my parameters were created though letting Crystal Reports create them. I have not need to create a business view using the Business View product. The number of parameters I have maybe 50 on the CMC?

Let me know if this makes sense. I appreciate any guidance you can provide

Instead of letting Crystal handle the changes, I would go to the Business View Manager (BVM) and update the Connection (_DC) and/or Data Foundation (_DF) to point to the new table there instead of doing it through a report. I would not doubt that you have multiple prompts with the same or similar names. Best practice, no matter which version of BO/Crystal you're using, is to manage these in the BVM. While I don't know for certain why you're seeing this issue all of a sudden, I suspect that BO is getting confused about what's in the repository for your prompts because there have been so many changes over time. In any case, I'm not entirely sure it's something that can be fixed although you might be able to work around it.

When you log in to the BVM, make sure that you connect to the correct CMS. Also make sure that you save the changes that you make to each "piece" of the prompt. Here's what they are:

_DC = Data Connection - this is the information about how to connect to the database.
_DF = Data Foundation - this is the table or query that you're connecting to.
_BE = Business Element - this is the definition of a field to use in the List of Values.
_BV = Business View - this is the collection of fields to use in the List of Values.
(no suffix) = List of Values - this is what actually provides the prompt information.

Making the changes in the BVM just might get you around the issue that you're having with publishing the Crystal.
