Failed to open a rowset - Crystal Reports - Informix ODBC

Using the latest IBM Informix drivers in ODBC. Test is successful - In Crystal Reports I can log in and view the tables but when I create a report I get the following messages:

Failed to open a rowset

Failed to open a rowset
Details: HV000:[Informix ODBC Driver]{Informix]Syntax
disallowed in this database server.

running this on a Windows 7 PC 32bit

any help would be appreciated

We had a similar error before. We had rights to view the database and the tables, but no rights to view the data. Go figure. Since it was a vendor's DB, they had to give use a different user with more rights.
