3 different laptops(2 dell,1 hp), all xp pro with ALL updates, same as all other equipment in our office.
Occasionally when right-clicking, get pop up:
Failed to load resource DLL.

Click ok it goes away and it still functions normally(ie can copy, paste, etc).
Now this started after we removed Symantec and added Sophos from our Domain and machines. So it seems to be connected with right-click context menu.
Ive googled for fixes, tried all I found - sfc /scannow, different mice, removed sophos and readded, etc. Nothing on sophos or symantec site.

Any other ideas?

It sounds like a dll related to Symantec is trying to be loaded when right clicking. When you right click on a file you normally get the option to scan the file with whichever flavour of AV you are using. From the sound of it, Symantec still has some leftover bits and pieces on your system.

I'm not sure about Symantec's Enterprise edition because I don't use it but I know that with Symantec's "home" versions you have to use the removal tool available through their web site to completely remove Symantec after you have uninstalled it.

Cheers.

Dang I always forget all the details. I have tried shwellexview, but havnt located anything funky. I will need to revisit it as thats proly best answer. I do believe it related to Symantec removal, I ran the Symantec removal tool, it proly missed registry stuff. The enterprise edition, is a pain to remove, thus someone had to create a removal tool.

hmmm more info. It ALWAYS happens if I have Paint open. So I removed it and reinstalled, same error...

Are you able to verify which actual .dll is the problem or is it really a file called resource.dll, or is "resource dll" a sort of generic message?

Does something like Process Monitor v1.37
offer you any ideas?

In the same site the Autorun program might be useful too?
AutoRuns for Windows v9.35

Unfortunately its generic 'Failed to load resource DLL'
No syntax, just resource DLL.
I can try the 2 apps, but I really dont know what I would be looking for....
I still think its connected to Symantec somehow...

hmmm..using shellexview, I found a Sophos program that when expanded says its the context handler for SAV. SAV is of course Saymantec antivirus. I disabled this, so far no error...
Dont know why the Sophos would point to SAV, but lets see what happens.
