My computer seems to think it's offline part of the time. I go to a webpage, and I'm told I appear to be offline, even though I'm obviously online.

If I try to repair my configuration, I get the following error message:

The following steps of the repair operation failed: Flushing the ARP cache; purging the DNS resolver cache.

This error message happens whether I'm on my home connection (wireless, cable modem); or at the office (wired, T-1). I'm running Win XP Pro, IE 6 SP1.

If I go to a command prompt and type ipconfig /release, then try to repair, I STILL get that error message. If I try ipconfig /displaydns, I get told that Windows "could not display the DNS resolver cache."

The info shown below might be helpful. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Windowz' IP stack isn't that great. Try this:
Uninstall the IP protocol under your network card config
Uninstall your network card under the hardware browser
reboot your PC and let it reinstall the above when it autodetects your nic.

Failing that you're probably in the market for a format/rebuild. ----------------------------------------

Are you talking about reformatting the hard drive? Yuck, I hope your other suggestions solve my problem.

Thanks for the response!

I get a similar message. I am using a usb-usb cable to network my two computers. It seems to take up a great deal of cpu% at times. When I try to repair the connection, I get the "flushing arp cache failed" message. Haven't found the arp cache handle to flush so I'll keep looking ;)
